Foreshortening (11*14)
I was inspired by a photo shoot of a Japanese actor. I focused on his sneaker to feature the foreshortening concept. It was also the first time I used only pen and marker to create volume, texture, and details.
Yutanpo (11*14)
It displays a traditional Yutanpo, which resembles a hot water bottle to keep your body warm. It is rarely seen now, but I remember seeing my grandma using it when I was a child. I really like the color and pattern of its design, and to go with the overall feeling, I paired it up with the flower behind.
Us (9*9)
I portrayed the main characters from a novel I read during the summer, according to descriptions in the text. They're a homosexual couple, while their long hair kind of blurs their gender characteristics. As homosexuality is still a sensitive topic in where I'm from, I want to use this work to encourage people to overcome sexual barriers regarding relationships.
Nebula (11*9)
I wanted to use this collage to explore how different physical appearance and facial expressions can reveal the personality of a character. I also got inspiration from some of my favorite novels and animations. I really like how neatly it turned out when I used only markers and a little bit of color.
South (14*11)
This is what I remember from to trip to Southern China last summer. It was a very quiet and calming village, yet all the people there also make it very folksy(?). I used a not so detailed, casual style in this painting to emphasize the peaceful, relaxing atmosphere.
